Don Capener serves as the Dean of Marshall University's Lewis College of Business since 2023. Previously, he held leadership roles as Dean of Jacksonville University's Davis College of Business (2011–2019), where he tripled graduate enrollment and established a Doctor of Business Administration program. He also served as Associate Provost and Dean of Graduate Programs at Utah Valley University. His academic background includes a PhD from the International School of Management (Paris), an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.
His research focuses on public policy, fiscal economics, and healthcare administration. Notable contributions include work on federal budget deficits, municipal bond markets, and tax policy impacts. He received the 2018 Emerald Publishing Highly Commended Award for research on crowding-out effects of federal deficits.
Capener’s career spans academia and corporate leadership. He held executive roles at Leo Burnett and Reebok, co-founded Above the Rim Hoopwear, and served as CEO of Capener Walcher-San Diego. He was instrumental in taking Netcentives public in 1999. Fluent in Japanese and an avid cultural linguist, he maintains an influential presence on LinkedIn as a thought leader in business and economics.
