Dominique Bachelet serves as a Researcher at Oregon State University's College of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Biological and Ecological Engineering, contributing to the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute (OCCRI). With over 38 years of expertise, she focuses on translating climate science for public agencies and ecological stakeholders.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Ecology, Colorado State University (1983)
- DEA in Plant Ecology, Université de Paris XI, Orsay (1979)
- M.S. in Plant Biology, Université de Lille (1977)
Her research pioneers dynamic fire modeling and ecosystem response simulations to climate change, emphasizing carbon budgets and biosphere-atmosphere interactions. She develops practical tools like the Climate-smart Seedlot Selection Tool and Soil Vulnerability Index for land managers, bridging technical climate data with on-ground conservation needs through initiatives like data Basin.
Awards:
- AAAS Fellow (2017) for advancing global fire models and ecosystem-climate science
- Oregon State University Service Awards (10, 20, and 25 years)
Bachelet mentors graduate students as a committee member and collaborates across organizations including Conservation Biology Institute and The Nature Conservancy. Her outreach, such as the Voices of a Warming Planet oral history, targets students, scientists, and policymakers. She leads teams in projects like Packaging Usable Climate Change Information for Sagebrush and Integrated Scenarios for Northwest Hydrology.
