Dominick L. Opitz

Dominick L. Opitz is an Associate Professor of Optometry and Senior Director of Ophthalmology Services and Practice Development at the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). He holds a BS from Loyola University Chicago (1992) and an OD from ICO (1996), followed by a hospital-based residency in primary care/ocular disease at the Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center (1996–1997). His research focuses on glaucoma, uveitis, surgical cataract management, and ocular surface disease.

His academic career began in 2006 at ICO, where he contributes to clinical education and directs ophthalmology services. Prior to this, he was a partner in Midwest Eye Professionals (1997–2010). Dr. Opitz's publications emphasize clinical research, including azithromycin efficacy and silicone punctal plugs in glaucoma. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and active in professional organizations like AOA, IOA, and ARVO.
