Domenico VALENZA is a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe’s Interdepartmental European Advanced Studies (IDEAs) program. He currently serves as a cultural officer at Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, where he has contributed to public diplomacy initiatives, supported Italian Institutes of Culture networks, and authored foresight documents on Italy’s cultural diplomacy. Previously, he worked at No Peace Without Justice as a Program Officer and at the College of Europe as an Academic Assistant (2016–2018).
Dr. Valenza holds a PhD in Political Sciences from Ghent University and the United Nations University (2023). His doctoral research analyzed Russian and EU cultural diplomacy in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus, focusing on identities and affect in foreign policy. He employs mixed-methods approaches, including multi-sited ethnography and interviews conducted in Russia, Moldova, and Armenia. He also earned a Master of Science in 'Russia in Global Systems' from King’s College London, a Master of Arts in European Studies from Université Paris 8 and Université libre de Bruxelles, and a Bachelor’s in Communication Studies from the University of Catania.
Valenza’s research bridges practitioner expertise and academic rigour, emphasizing the 'listening' dimension of foreign policy. He speaks Italian, English, French, and Russian, enhancing his cross-cultural diplomatic work.
