Domenico Tortorella is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Columbia University. He holds a PhD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a BS from Manhattan College. His research focuses on viral immune evasion mechanisms, particularly how herpesviruses like human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) disrupt MHC class I antigen presentation to avoid immune detection. His lab investigates molecular pathways involving viral proteins (US2, US3, US6, US11) and toxin translocation across the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
Research Personnel include Postdoctoral Fellow Kristina Oresic, Ph.D., and lab member Fatima Manzoor. His work bridges virology, cell biology, and immunology, with applications in antiviral therapies and understanding ER quality control processes.
Publications span studies on HCMV infection dynamics in microglia, CD46-mediated viral entry, and vaccine development strategies. His lab is located in the Annenberg Building, New York.
