Professor Beneventi's research critically examines gender studies and queer theory through Canadian and Quebec literary lenses, with specialized focus on comparative Canadian literature, urban writing, and minority narratives. His work interrogates spatial exclusion, class dynamics, and representations of poverty/homelessness, particularly within Anglo-Quebec literature and marginalized communities.
His recent publications reveal consistent engagement with queer counter-publics in Montreal's urban landscape, trauma narratives, and homeless embodiment in Canadian fiction. These works bridge literary analysis with social justice frameworks, emphasizing spatial theory and minority experiences across historical and contemporary contexts.
As Program Director for the Master's program, he oversees graduate training while his research has received support through CRSH and CELAT-UQAM postdoctoral fellowships.
He directs the FRQSC-funded Équipe de recherche en études queer au Québec (ÉRÉQQ) and collaborates with VersUS, CELCP, and QUESCREN research networks.
