Dmitry Sveshnikov

Dmitry Sveshnikov serves as an Associate Professor in the Environmental Science program at the School of Science and the Environment, Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland. He concurrently holds the position of curator for the Grenfell Campus herbarium (SWGC), a significant research collection housing over 10,000 vascular plant, lichen, and fungal specimens from Newfoundland.

His research expertise centers on plant physiological responses to environmental stressors, integrating molecular biology approaches to study photosynthetic microorganisms within boreal ecosystems. He investigates adaptation mechanisms in plant and microbial physiological ecology, with emphasis on ecological resilience in northern environments.

Dr. Sveshnikov teaches foundational courses in general biology, plant biology, and environmental biology while mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research projects focused on ecological physiology. His curatorial work with the SWGC herbarium supports biodiversity documentation and ecological research across Newfoundland.
