معرفی
Dmitry Spasskiy is an Associate Professor in Solid State Physics at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Science and Technology, Institute of Physics. He has been in this position since February 12, 2024, having previously served as Associate Professor from January 1, 2021 to February 11, 2024, and as Senior Research Fellow in Solid State Physics from September 23, 2020 to December 31, 2020. His academic journey began with his Doctor's Degree in 2001 from M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University under the supervision of Vitaly Mikhailin.
Dr. Spasskiy's educational background includes studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Physics from 1992 to 2001. His research focuses on solid state physics, particularly luminescent materials, phosphors, and crystal physics.
His research interests center on the optical properties of materials, especially luminescence phenomena in various crystal structures. Dr. Spasskiy investigates energy transfer processes, defect formation in crystals, and the relationship between crystal structure and optical properties. His work has significant applications in solid-state lighting, scintillation detectors, and advanced optical materials. He employs various techniques including synchrotron radiation excitation, laser spectroscopy, and crystal growth methods to study these phenomena.
Dr. Spasskiy's scientific contributions are evident in his extensive publication record, with research focusing on molybdates, garnets, phosphates, and other optical materials. His work demonstrates expertise in understanding how crystal structure influences luminescent properties, particularly with rare earth ions like Tb3+, Eu3+, and Ce3+. The research spans fundamental understanding of energy transfer mechanisms to practical applications in lighting and radiation detection.
Among his notable scientific contributions are studies on energy transfer efficiency in various crystal hosts, defect formation in scintillation materials, and the development of novel phosphors for solid-state lighting applications. His work bridges fundamental physics with practical materials engineering.
Dr. Spasskiy currently supervises doctoral student Muhammad Usama Jamal, who is researching energy transfer to luminescence centers in alkali and rare-earth metal molybdates. His research is supported by multiple projects including the Center of Excellence in Sustainable Green Hydrogen and Energy Technologies (2024-2030) and the CERN Science Consortium of Estonia (2023-2025).
He is actively involved in laboratory research focusing on luminescent materials characterization, crystal growth, and optical spectroscopy. His work contributes to advancing the understanding of structure-property relationships in functional optical materials.
