Dr. Dmitry Semenov is a Scientific Staff member at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany since 2012, and a Guest Researcher at the Organic Chemistry Department of Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. His research focuses on astrochemistry and the formation of planetary systems, combining theoretical models with observational data from advanced telescopes like ALMA and JWST. Key areas include chemical evolution in protoplanetary disks, isotopic fractionation, and the origins of organic molecules relevant to life.
He develops advanced numerical tools such as the ALCHEMIC code for gas-grain chemistry simulations and leads large collaborations like the PRODIGE program studying star and disk evolution. Semenov also teaches molecular astrophysics and astrochemistry at Heidelberg University.
His work addresses fundamental questions in planet formation, including organic molecule synthesis under disk conditions, and the role of turbulence and radiation in chemical processes.
