Dmitry Ablogin serves as Professor of Fortepiano at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since his appointment in October 2024. Renowned as one of the most brilliant and creative musicians of his generation, he specializes in historical keyboard performance on period instruments.
His research centers on Historical Performance Practice, exploring the sound world, techniques, and aesthetics of historical keyboard instruments from the late 18th to 19th centuries. He emphasizes immersion in historical sources including treatises, early recordings, and revival of nearly extinct practices such as preluding, free improvisation, and historical ornamentation. His work transforms intellectual understanding of historical contexts into vibrant personal interpretations.
