Dmitrii Kolotkov is an Assistant Professor (research-focussed) at the University of Warwick's Department of Physics and Stephen Hawking Fellow 2025. His research focuses on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in solar and astrophysical plasmas, particularly in the solar corona.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Warwick (2017) with a thesis titled 'Nonlinear and multi-modal oscillatory processes in active regions of the solar atmosphere'. Research interests cover:
- Theory and analysis of MHD waves and oscillations in the solar corona
- MHD coronal seismology techniques for plasma diagnostics
- Quasi-periodic pulsations in solar and stellar flares
- Nonlinear wave dynamics and prominence oscillations
- Advanced signal processing methods for solar data analysis
Recent publications (2023-2025) primarily focus on wave damping mechanisms (40% of articles), coronal seismology techniques (30%), and quasi-periodic pulsations (20%). Research utilizes multi-instrument data from SDO, Solar Orbiter, and develops novel analysis methods including neural networks and Bayesian inference.
Awards include the prestigious Stephen Hawking Fellowship (2025). Current research projects investigate thermal misbalance effects in coronal loops and long-period oscillations as energy proxies in the solar atmosphere.
