Djurdja Bartlett is a Reader in Histories and Cultures of Fashion at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. She coordinates the Transnational Fashion Hub and is a member of the Transnational Art, Identity and Nation (TrAIN) research centre. Her work bridges academic research with cultural heritage practices, focusing on the intersection of fashion, politics, and transnational histories.
Her research interests include transnational fashion dynamics, Soviet and post-Soviet studies, museum archives, and visual arts. Notable publications include FashionEast: the Spectre That Haunted Socialism (MIT Press, 2010) and edited volumes on fashion and politics. Her work frequently examines fashion's role in ideological contexts and cultural memory.
Bartlett has secured significant funding including an AHRC Research Fellowship (2012-2014) and led collaborative projects like the Establishing a Theoretic Framework of Shanghai Fashion (2014-2017). She actively engages with international networks such as the European Fashion Heritage Association (EFHA) and has presented keynote lectures at conferences like Diors of the Eastern Bloc (Budapest, 2020).
Her teaching spans fashion history, research methodologies, and digital production, with a focus on mentoring doctoral researchers. Bartlett’s work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, blending fashion studies with media, heritage, and political analysis.
