Djoerd Hiemstra

Djoerd Hiemstra is a researcher at the Human, Work & Organization research group within NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. His work focuses on understanding and enhancing intrinsic motivation among professionals in a knowledge-intensive society, particularly through lifelong learning and technological applications like serious games, e-learning, and biometric measurements.

He completed his dissertation on the strengths-based approach for professional development and is currently exploring innovative methods to bridge work demands with personal growth. Based at the Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz on Terschelling, his research addresses critical challenges in balancing career development, education, and personal life.
