Diwakar Acharya is the Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and All Souls College. His academic trajectory includes roles as Associate Professor of Indological Studies at Kyoto University (2011–2016), Visiting Foreign Lecturer at Kyoto University (2006–2011), Research Associate at Hamburg University (2003–2006), and Assistant Professor at Nepal Sanskrit University (1993–2003).
His research examines the evolution of Indian religions and philosophical traditions, with specialized focus on:
- Tantric Vaiṣṇavism and Śaiva Siddhānta theology
- Upaniṣadic cosmogony and metaphysical discourse
- Ancient Nepalese socio-legal structures through epigraphic evidence
- Comparative analysis of Jain and Vedic epistemological frameworks
