Prof. Dirk Slotboom is a full Professor in Biochemistry at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute. His research focuses on membrane protein structure/function, solute transport across biological membranes, and energy-coupling mechanisms. He holds a PhD in Microbiology (2001) and has held academic positions since 2004, including post-doctoral work at the MRC-Dunn Unit in Cambridge (2001–2004).
Education & Career
- PhD Microbiology (2001), University of Groningen
- MSc Chemistry (1994), Free University Amsterdam
- Professor (2014–present), Associate Professor (2009–2014), Assistant Professor (2004–2009), University of Groningen
Research Interests
His work investigates membrane transporter proteins, particularly ABC and ECF transporters, using structural biology, biophysics, and computational methods. Key areas include ATP-driven transport mechanisms, substrate specificity, and inhibitor discovery for potential drug targets.
