Dirk Schubert is an Associate Professor and Principal Lecturer at the Department of Cognitive Neuroscience, Radboud University Medical Center (RadboudUMC) in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He leads the research group “Cellular Neurophysiology,” focusing on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders such as intellectual disability (ID), schizophrenia (SZ), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and epilepsy. His work integrates rodent cortical network development studies with human stem cell-derived neuronal models (‘human brain in the dish’) to investigate altered excitatory/inhibitory (E/I) balance in monogenic disorders.
Dr. Schubert holds a PhD in Biology from Heinrich Heine University (HHU) Düsseldorf, Germany, and has conducted research fellowships at the University of Szeged (Hungary) and HHU Medical Centre Düsseldorf. He is a member of the European Committee for Higher Education and Training (CHET) and the executive board of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS).
As an educator, he coordinates courses for Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, and Molecular Life Sciences programs. His lab emphasizes translational research bridging basic neurophysiological insights with clinical applications in neurodevelopmental disorders.
