Dirk Gindt is Professor of Theatre Studies at the Department of Culture and Aesthetics, Stockholm University. His research spans decolonial performance studies, queer theatre history, and cultural translations of American drama in Europe. He leads the Swedish Research Council-funded project Circumpolar Performance Cultures, analyzing Indigenous ensembles in Sweden, Greenland, and Canada. He also co-edited Viral Dramaturgies: HIV and AIDS in Performance (2018) and authored Tennessee Williams in Sweden and France, 1945–1965 (2019). As Director of the International Master's Programme in Performance Studies, he bridges academic and artistic communities.

He advocates for ethically responsible methodologies in Indigenous research and has contributed to debates on fashion studies, neoliberal sentimentality in HIV narratives, and medico-artistic censorship of gay theatre in Sweden’s welfare state.
