Prof. Dirk Engel is a Professor of Economics and International Business at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, leading the Bachelor's in Business Administration and Master's in SME Management programs. He holds a PhD from the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) and has extensive experience in economic research institutions, including RWI. His research focuses on internationalization, SME innovation, and regional development. He has held key administrative roles, including managing research and teaching divisions at the university. Notable projects include studies on labor shortages in Western Pomerania and health tourism. His publications span market research, cluster policy impacts, and digital work environments. He actively contributes to Baltic Management Review and collaborates with regional stakeholders on applied economic research.
Education: Studied economics at the European University Viadrina, Frankfurt (Oder), with a doctoral thesis on venture capital under Prof. Helmut Seitz. His academic career began at ZEW, followed by RWI, before joining Stralsund in 2008.
