Dr. Dipesh Chaudhury is an Associate Professor of Biology at NYU Abu Dhabi and holds a Global Network Assistant Professor position. He specializes in neural circuits underlying mood disorders and memory loss. His research emphasizes understanding how stress and circadian rhythms modulate brain function. He teaches courses in neuroscience, physiology, and experimental neurobiology, including BIOL-UH 2010 (Human Physiology), BIOL-UH 3101 (Behavioral Neuroscience), and BIOL-UH 3211 (Experimental Neurobiology).
Dr. Chaudhury earned a BSc from the University of London School of Pharmacy and a PhD from the Open University. His postdoctoral work spanned institutions in the US and France. His lab investigates stress resilience, sleep dynamics, and the neural basis of mood disorders. Recent work links fragmented sleep patterns to stress vulnerability, as highlighted in studies published in Frontiers in Neuroscience and Translational Psychiatry.
Key research areas include lateral habenula function, dopaminergic circuits, and optogenetic tools for neural circuit analysis. His team collaborates on projects involving 3D-printed neural probes and non-opioid analgesia mechanisms. He advises students on capstone projects and maintains an active lab in Abu Dhabi.
