Professor Dina Kiwan is a Professor in Comparative Education and Deputy Director for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the College of Social Sciences (CoSS), University of Birmingham. She joined in January 2017 and has held leadership roles including Head of the Department of Education and Social Justice and Director of Internationalisation for the School of Education.
Her research focuses on sociological and politico-philosophical analyses of inclusive citizenship through education, naturalisation, and migration policies, particularly in multicultural societies and conflict contexts. She examines how marginalized groups (e.g., based on disability, gender, asylum status, race/religion) engage as political actors. Her work also explores the political sociology of global knowledge production.
Prof. Kiwan serves on the UK government’s Migration Advisory Committee (MAC, 2021–2027) and co-leads the FCDO’s £25M Research Commissioning Centre (2023–2028). She has extensive academic and policy networks globally, specializing in citizenship studies.
