Dimitrios Stamatialis

Prof. Dimitrios Stamatialis is a full Professor at the University of Twente, affiliated with the Biomedical Engineering & Technical Medicine department under the Faculty of Science and Technology. He leads the Advanced Organ Bioengineering and Therapeutics (AOT) research group and has been elected President of the European Society for Artificial Organs (ESAO) for 2025-2027.

His research focuses on artificial organ bioengineering, therapeutics, and regenerative medicine, including groundbreaking work on biohybrid artificial kidneys and phospholipid-based pharmaceutical systems. He actively supervises PhD students, several of whom have received accolades at international conferences like ESAO 2024 and the 8th International Symposium on Phospholipids in Pharmaceutical Research.

Prof. Stamatialis is organizing the ESAO2025 conference in Enschede, June 24-28, further cementing his role in advancing artificial organ research. His leadership in the AOT group drives collaborations with industry and academic partners to translate bioengineering innovations into clinical applications.
