Dimitrios Sarafopoulos

Dimitrios Sarafopoulos serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Democritus University of Thrace, specializing in Space Electrodynamics. He is a member of the Electromagnetic Theory Laboratory within the Telecommunications and Space Sector. His academic career spans several decades since earning his doctorate in 1987 from the same institution where he completed his undergraduate studies in 1981.

His research focuses on the electrodynamics of Earth's electromagnetic environment, particularly the magnetosphere and space weather phenomena. Key areas include particle acceleration mechanisms, magnetic reconnection processes, magnetospheric storm models, and the creation of twisted magnetic structures (Magnetic Flux Ropes). He has extensively analyzed data from major space missions including IMP-7/8, ISEE, GEOTAIL, WIND, ACE, POLAR, CLUSTER, and THEMIS.
