Dimitrios K. Niakolas is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Ioannina, and a Visiting Faculty Member at ITE/IEXMH (Patras). He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Patras and an MBA from Hellenic Open University. His research focuses on experimental physical chemistry, electrocatalysis, and chemical/ electrochemical processes for energy and environmental applications, including solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs), and high-pressure PEM electrolysis.

He has led or participated in numerous national and European projects, such as ROBANODE (EU-FCH-JU-245355), SUSHGEN (Marie Curie-ITN-238678), SElySOs (HORIZON 2020-671481), and 24/7 ZEN (HORIZON EUROPE-101101418). His work encompasses catalyst design, electrochemical reactor development for terrestrial and space applications, and strategic energy management. He has authored 42 publications, delivered 54 conference presentations (including 12 invited talks), and serves as a reviewer for scientific journals and HORIZON 2020 proposals.

His expertise extends to innovation, competitiveness, and technology assessment, with a focus on carbon/sulfur-tolerant electrodes, electrochemical kinetics, and sustainable energy systems. He actively contributes to research proposal evaluation and is a certified evaluator for the General Secretariat of the Hellenic Republic.
