Dimitre Karamanev is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Western University (Faculty of Engineering). He holds a Ph.D. from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1988) and a Diploma Engineer from Mendeleev University, Russia (1980). His research focuses on bioelectrochemical systems, energy storage, bioreactor design, and fluid dynamics.
Education:
- Ph.D. (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), 1988
- Diploma Engineer (Mendeleev University, Russia), 1980
Research Interests: Invention of the BioGenerator for hydrogen-to-electricity conversion, membrane and electrode development, bioreactor hydrodynamics, biokinetics of chemolithoautotrophs (e.g., Acidithiobacillus), oxygen mass transfer, and mathematical modeling of multiphase systems. His work bridges biochemical engineering with environmental sustainability and energy innovation.
Recent Publications: His research trends include bioelectrochemical energy storage, microbial fuel cells, fluid dynamics in non-Newtonian systems, and environmental impact of industrial heat emissions. Key topics span hydrogen oxidation, bioreactor design, and mass transfer optimization.
