Dilip Narayanan is a Research Consultant and Facility Manager at CPHSAXS, Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology (DDP) at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in Medicinal Chemistry Research (2021-2024) and in Peptides and Proteins (2020-2021) at the same institution.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Molecular and Structural Biology from UiT The Arctic University of Norway (2017), an M.Sc. in Bioinformatics from the University of Madras (2006), and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Calicut (2003).
Narayanan's research integrates projects understanding oxidative stress, redox signaling, inflammation and epigenetics from a societal point of view. His expertise spans structural biology techniques including X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM, protein chemistry, fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD), bioassays for ligand-protein interactions, and structure-based drug design. His research targets include protein-protein interactions (PPIs), oxidative stress pathways (Keap1), redox signaling (NADPH oxidase 2), inflammation (TNF receptors), and epigenetics (KDM5B).
His publication record shows a strong focus on fragment-based drug discovery approaches targeting protein-protein interactions, particularly in the Keap1-Nrf2 pathway, TNF receptors, and NADPH oxidase systems. His work combines structural biology insights with medicinal chemistry to develop novel therapeutic compounds with anti-inflammatory properties.
Narayanan has received recognition through citations and mentions in patents, with his work being referenced in multiple patents and garnering attention on social media and academic platforms like Mendeley.
He has supervised 1 PhD student and 12 master/bachelor's students since 2010. He completed a university pedagogy course at UCPH in 2021. From 2019-2024, he taught courses in Molecular Pharmacology, Medicinal and Biostructural Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Biology at UCPH and Preclinical drug development at DTU.
His research is conducted within the Bach Group at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, with access to advanced structural biology facilities including the CPHSAXS facility which he now manages as Facility Manager.
