Anoop Narayanan is a Research Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Pennsylvania State University, affiliated with the Jose Lab. His research focuses on viral mechanisms, antiviral strategies, and structural biology, particularly in Zika virus and SARS-CoV-2. He is based in the Millennium Science Complex and reachable at aun84@psu.edu.
His work spans viral pathogenesis, including Zika virus's use of tunneling nanotubes for mitochondrial transfer and stealth transmission in placental cells, and SARS-CoV-2's reliance on heparan sulfate and ACE2 receptors. He also explores protein assembly mechanisms in viruses and drug repurposing for antiviral therapies. Recent studies include structure-based inhibitor design targeting viral proteases and synthetic defective interfering viruses.
Narayanan's research integrates cryo-EM, in-cell assays, and optogenetic tools to study transcription regulation and viral-host interactions. His contributions address fundamental questions in virology and translational medicine.
No scientific awards or grants are listed here. He currently advises no formally listed students but collaborates extensively with the Jose Lab team.
