Dilek Kurban is a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and a Visiting Researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center's Migration, Integration, Transnationalization department. She holds a PhD in Law from Maastricht University and a JD from Columbia Law School.
Research Focus: Her work centers on supranational human rights frameworks, transnational rule of law dynamics, authoritarian governance, and the legal protection of ethnic/religious minorities. Past research investigated how international law and European integration shape domestic policies addressing conflict-driven migration, particularly in Turkey's Kurdish conflict context.
Publications: Her doctoral research was published as Limits of Supranational Justice (Cambridge University Press, 2020), analyzing the European Court of Human Rights' engagement with Turkey's Kurdish conflict. Current studies explore human rights court efficacy in authoritarian contexts and transnational legal mechanisms for minority rights.
Affiliations: Previously held a Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowship at the European University Institute (2021-2022). Engaged with institutions addressing migration, transnational legal frameworks, and post-conflict governance.
