Dijana Dominis Prester, Ph.D., is a Professor and Head of the Division of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics, University of Rijeka. She has held this position since 2016 and is actively involved in leadership roles such as Chairperson of the research section of the Croatian Physical Society (2018–present) and Coordinator for International Relations of the Physics Department.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physics (2006), Universität Potsdam, Germany
- M.Sc. in Physics (2001), University of Zagreb
- B.Sc. in Physics (1996), University of Zagreb with 9 months at University of Vienna (OEAD scholarship)
Research Interests:
- Gamma-ray astronomy via MAGIC and CTA collaborations
- Exoplanet detection via gravitational microlensing
- Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) studies, blazar variability, and TeV emission mechanisms
- Dark matter annihilation searches and cosmic ray acceleration in supernova remnants
- Instrumentation for VHE gamma-ray telescopes and atmospheric correction techniques
Key Projects:
- Principal investigator of "Studying structure of the Universe using ground-based and space-borne telescopes" (2013–2018)
- Bilateral projects with Germany on CTA optimization and AGN time delays
- Leadership roles in MAGIC (Operations & Safety Coordinator, Executive Board) and PLANET collaborations
Teaching: Courses include Modern Physics II, Computational Physics, and Observational Astrophysics at both undergraduate and doctoral levels. Materials are available via Merlin platform.
Labs/Teams: Head of the Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics Division, involved in MAGIC and CTA observatory teams, and leading international astroparticle research groups.
