Prof. Dr. Dietmar Zehn is a Professor of Animal Physiology and Immunology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He serves as the founding director of the TUM Center for Infection Prevention (ZIP), established in 2023 with €42M in funding from the German Council of Science and Humanities. His research focuses on T cell-mediated immune responses, aiming to enhance T cell efficacy for therapeutic and prophylactic applications in humans and farm animals. He also investigates immune cell contributions to organ physiology and pathophysiological processes in livestock.
Education and Career:
- Studied Medicine at Humboldt University of Berlin (1996–2004), earning a doctorate in 2004.
- Research associate at University of Washington, Seattle (2004–2009).
- Joined University of Lausanne (2009), becoming an Assistant Professor (2010) and recipient of an SNSF Professorship (2013).
- Joined TUM in 2015, advancing to full Professor.
Research Interests: T cell exhaustion mechanisms, chronic viral infections, cancer immunotherapy, and immune regulation in farm animals. His work bridges clinical and veterinary immunology, emphasizing translational applications.
