Dietmar Heil

Dr. Dietmar Heil serves as a Lecturer at the Chair of Bavarian Regional History within the Institute of History, Faculty of Philosophy, Arts, History and Social Sciences at the University of Regensburg. He maintains a dual academic affiliation as a research associate at the Historical Commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 1990, specializing in the German Reichstag Records project.

His educational foundation includes:

Heil's research concentrates on 16th-century Bavarian political history within the Holy Roman Empire, with particular emphasis on Duke Albrecht V's imperial policy and the editorial reconstruction of Imperial Diets during Maximilian I's reign. His methodological approach combines diplomatics, institutional history, and political communication analysis to examine how written procedures transformed Reichstag operations between 1495-1586.

His publication corpus reveals consistent chronological and thematic focus, spanning Imperial Diets from Cologne (1505) to Constance (1507) and Augsburg (1566), with recurring investigation of political negotiation frameworks, peace mechanisms, and Bavarian representation within imperial institutions. The editorial work on Reichstag records constitutes both primary source contribution and analytical framework for understanding early modern German political culture.

Heil actively contributes to Bavarian historical pedagogy through undergraduate proseminars covering regional history from the late medieval period through the 20th century, while maintaining scholarly engagement through membership in the Munich Center for Edition Science.
