Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dieter Fensel (1960–2024) was a renowned computer scientist and professor at the University of Innsbruck. He held concurrent professorships at the National University of Ireland in Galway (2003) and served as a professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (1999–2002). He was the founder of the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) and later led the Semantic Technology Institute (STI) Innsbruck until his passing.
