Dieter Bauer is a Full Professor (W3 chair) at the Institute of Physics, University of Rostock, where he leads the Quantum Theory & Many-Particle Systems research group. He currently serves as Spokesperson of the DFG collaborative research center 1477 "Light-Matter Interactions at Interfaces" and previously served as Dean of Studies for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (2014-2018).
Dr. Bauer earned his Dipl.-Phys. and Dr. rer. nat. from Darmstadt University of Technology in 1995 and 1997, respectively. He completed his habilitation at both Darmstadt University of Technology (2002) and University of Heidelberg (2005). His academic career includes positions at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, Max Born Institute, University of Pisa, Helsinki University of Technology, and TU Darmstadt.
Professor Bauer's research focuses on time-dependent quantum many-body techniques, intense laser-matter interaction, and computational physics. His work spans from single active electron approximations to correlated electron dynamics and collectivity in laser-matter interactions. He has made significant contributions to understanding ionization dynamics, harmonic generation, and energy absorption in laser-cluster interactions. His research group employs advanced computational methods including time-dependent Schrödinger equation solvers and time-dependent density functional theory approaches.
His publication record shows consistent focus on quantum dynamics in strong laser fields, with particular attention to many-electron effects, time-dependent density functional theory applications, and the transition from single-particle to collective behavior in intense laser fields.

His laboratory develops and applies advanced numerical methods to study laser-driven quantum systems across multiple scales, from single atoms to complex clusters and droplets.
