Diego Martín

Diego Martín is a Professor of Legal Philosophy at the School of Law, University of Girona. He holds the Chair of Legal Culture and leads the Research Group in Philosophy of Law. His academic career includes being a Serra Húnter Professor of Philosophy of Law (2018–2024), Associate Professor at Pompeu Fabra University (2006–2011), a "Juan de la Cierva" Researcher (2012–2014), and a Visiting Professor at Luigi Bocconi University (2015–2018).

His research focuses on the philosophical and economic analysis of private law, causality, civil liability, and the role of private law in promoting social justice and gender equality. He is currently developing a research line on private law's contributions to wealth redistribution and quality of life.

At the University of Girona, he teaches courses such as Economic Analysis of Damages Law and Justification and Functions of Civil Liability in the Master's Degree in Damages Law. He has directed 7 doctoral theses and 2 postdoctoral fellows, and is supervising 5 additional doctoral projects.

He has authored three monographs: Fundamentos económicos de la responsabilidad extracontractual (2009), Comprensión y justificación de la responsabilidad extracontractual (2014), and Private law as a public issue (2016). Additionally, he has edited six volumes, including Manual de derecho de daños extracontractuales (2022) and co-edited works published by Cambridge University Press and Springer.

As Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law (2016–present), he spearheaded the implementation of a 30 ECTS English-language program to enhance students' language skills and attract international students. His academic contributions span collaborations with institutions such as Yale University, Pompeu Fabra University, and the Universidad Externado de Colombia.
