Diede Fennema is a KCL/IDOR Pioneer Science Fellow in the Department of Psychological Medicine at King's College London, affiliated with the School of Academic Psychiatry and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. Her research focuses on cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging applications in mood disorders, particularly major depressive disorder (MDD). She investigates neural mechanisms underlying self-blaming biases and their role in treatment response and recurrence risk. Current projects include the NESPRED study, exploring neurocognitive signatures of recurrent depression, and the ADeSS initiative, developing decision support systems for antidepressant treatment in primary care.
Education:
- BSc in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Roosevelt (Netherlands), 2013
- MSc in Biomedical Sciences from University College London, 2015
- PhD in Psychological Medicine from King's College London (2018–2022), supervised by Prof. Roland Zahn and Prof. Gareth Barker
Research Interests: Cognitive neuroscience of mood disorders, neuroimaging biomarkers, self-blame mechanisms in depression, clinical applications of fMRI, and decision support systems in mental health care. Her work bridges translational research and clinical practice, aiming to improve treatment outcomes and recurrence prevention.
Grants & Collaborations:
- KCL/IDOR Pioneer Science Fellowship
- MRC-funded NESPRED validation study
- National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) clinical trial on ADeSS decision support
Labs/Teams: Centre for Affective Disorders, collaborating on projects like the ADeSS study and fMRI-based prognosis research.
