Dianqing Sun

Dianqing Sun, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy, University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. He holds a Master and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from East China University of Science and Technology and the University of Memphis, respectively, and completed postdoctoral training in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Dr. Sun's research focuses on medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, and drug discovery for antimicrobial resistance and anticancer agents. His work includes solid-phase synthesis, macrocyclic compounds, and structure-activity relationships. Recent publications highlight advancements in antibiotic hybrids, natural product chemoprevention, and microwave-assisted chemical methods.

He has received multiple honors, including:

Dr. Sun has secured grants from the Department of Defense, NIH (R01, R21, R15), INBRE, Hawaii Community Foundation, and UH Cancer Center, focusing on antibacterial development, anticancer research, and drug efflux mechanisms.
