Diane Curtis is a Senior Lecturer II of Legal Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, affiliated with the School of Public Policy. She also serves as the Director of Pre-Law Advising, with a focus on increasing access to legal education and diversifying the legal profession. Contact her at dcurtis@umass.edu.
Her research and teaching center on constitutional law, the intersections of state power with individuals and families, and legal reasoning. Her career began through activism in AIDS and women's health, transitioning to litigation in reproductive rights, domestic violence, and family law. She has taught at law schools, a paralegal certification program, and at UMass since 2008.
Diane’s publications reflect her expertise in reproductive rights, family law, and legal education. These include The LSAT and the Reproduction of Hierarchy (2019), which examines systemic biases in legal education, and her co-authored work on family rights (1996). Her 1994 article on menstrual extraction and self-help gynecological care highlights legal challenges in women's health.
