Diana Mitsova-Boneva

Dr. Diana Mitsova-Boneva is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). She holds the John DeGrove Eminent Scholar Chair in Growth Management and Development and is an Affiliate Professor in FAU's Department of Geosciences. Her research focuses on applying geographic information systems (GIS), spatial analysis, and computational modeling to address sustainability, climate adaptation, and infrastructure resilience. Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, FEMA/Florida Emergency Management, Florida Sea Grant, and others.

Her research interests include urban growth patterns, environmental planning, sea level rise vulnerability, and the health impacts of climate change. She co-authored the book Geospatial Applications for Climate Adaptation Planning (2019, Routledge), which explores geospatial technologies in climate vulnerability assessments and adaptation strategies through international case studies.

Dr. Mitsova leads initiatives such as the Collaborative Sciences Center on Road Safety (CSCRS) and contributes to FAU's Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions. Her NSF-funded projects include developing computational platforms for assessing infrastructure interdependencies during extreme events and advancing knowledge of resilient systems.
