Dr. Tisha Joseph Holmes is an Associate Professor in Urban and Regional Planning at Florida State University's College of Social Sciences. Her work focuses on climate adaptation strategies in coastal zones, socio-ecological resilience in marginalized communities, and participatory planning approaches. She holds a PhD in Urban Planning from UCLA (2015), an MPA from Columbia University (2005), and a BA from Williams College (2004).
Her research emphasizes community-driven solutions to natural hazards, including sea level rise adaptation, public health preparedness, and disaster resilience in vulnerable regions like Florida and the Caribbean. Recent work explores fiscal vulnerabilities in coastal development, climate gentrification pressures, and engagement principles for climate health research.
Dr. Holmes has published extensively in Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Social Science and Medicine, and Qualitative Social Work. Her teaching integrates critical thinking with technical skills to address environmental inequities faced by marginalized groups.
