Diana J. Goode is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New England's College of Medicine. Her research focuses on neuro-immune interactions in chronic pain and HIV pathogenesis. She holds a Ph.D. in Immunology from Johns Hopkins University and has conducted postdoctoral research at NIH, Yale, Population Council, and UNE.
Her laboratory investigates T cell-neuronal interactions in pain syndromes and the role of integrin α4β7 in HIV transmission. Notable contributions include discovering gp120's interaction with α4β7 in HIV pathogenesis and identifying sex hormone impacts on mucosal HIV susceptibility. Her recent work explores Epac signaling in pain mechanisms, revealing male-specific mitochondrial pathways in pain.
Key technical expertise includes flow cytometry, behavioral pain assays, and molecular biology. She teaches immunology in medical curricula, emphasizing flipped learning approaches. Her research has been published in Nat Immunol, J Neurosci, and Pain, with recent focus shifting towards immunotherapeutic pain treatments.
