Dhimant Desai

Dr. Dhimant Desai is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Precision Medicine at Pennsylvania State University, affiliated with the Penn State Cancer Institute, Penn State Neuroscience Institute, and the Center for Cannabis and Natural Product Pharmaceuticals (CCNPP). His research focuses on chemopreventive and therapeutic agents for cancers (colon, lung, melanoma, leukemia), organic synthesis of anticancer compounds, and gut microbiota studies. Key projects include硒-containing COX-2 inhibitors for colon cancer and PAN-antiviral agent PK/PD studies.

Dr. Desai leads two National Cancer Institute-funded grants, including 'Chemoprevention of Colon Cancer by a Novel COX-2 Inhibitor' (2014–2016) and 'iNOS/Akt Inhibitor for Colon Cancer Chemoprevention' (2009–2010). His work also explores bile acid analogs for non-fatty liver disease and cannabinoid therapeutics.

His research spans structural activity relationships of organic agents, synthesis of carcinogens (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, tobacco N-nitrosamines), and in vitro/in vivo studies with isotopic compounds. He co-authored over 185 publications, emphasizing oncology, drug repurposing, and biochemistry.

Dr. Desai received the Outstanding Collaborative Research Team award in 2015, recognizing interdisciplinary contributions. His labs and teams collaborate globally, advancing translational research in cancer prevention and therapeutic innovation.
