Dharm P. S. Bhawuk is a Professor in the Department of Management and Industrial Relations at the Shidler College of Business, University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, with interdisciplinary expertise in management, culture, and community psychology. His work bridges Eastern philosophy and modern organizational behavior, focusing on indigenous approaches to leadership, intercultural training, and spirituality in management.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1995), an MBA from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (1985), and a BA from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur (1979). These foundational experiences underpin his research in cultural psychology and global leadership.
Bhawuk’s research interests span indigenous Indian management, intercultural sensitivity, spirituality in leadership, cultural values like lajjā and śraddhā, and positive organizational psychology. He emphasizes decolonizing research methodologies and developing culturally grounded models from Indian scriptures. His work integrates philosophy, psychology, and management to foster ethical, culturally intelligent leadership.
His publications from 2021–2025 reveal a deep engagement with indigenous psychological constructs, intercultural dialogue, and spiritual leadership. Themes include the role of shame (lajjā) in the digital age, love (prem) in Sufi poetry, and discipline (tapas) in the Bhagavad-Gita. His research increasingly focuses on applying ancient wisdom to modern organizational challenges, especially in global and diverse contexts.
