Dhanya Vijayakumar

Dr. Dhanya Vijayakumar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston. She earned her MD from Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar in 2011, completed her Neurology residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015, and a Movement Disorders fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in 2017. Previously, she worked at Prisma Health Upstate establishing a Movement Disorder Fellowship program.

Her clinical interests focus on treating movement disorders through innovative approaches including deep brain stimulation (DBS) and botulinum toxin injections. Research expertise centers on Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and tremor management.

Dr. Vijayakumar has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national/international conferences. Her work demonstrates strong focus on clinical treatments and neuropharmacology interventions.

She actively mentors residents and fellows while serving as a member of the American Academy of Neurology and Movement Disorder Society.
