Dhanveer Singh Brar

Dhanveer Singh Brar is a Lecturer in Black British History at the School of History, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures, University of Leeds, a position he has held since April 2021. Prior to this, he was a Lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London for four years, and held postdoctoral fellowships at University College London and the University of Pennsylvania.
His educational background includes:

Dr. Brar's research focuses on histories of black diasporic culture and politics from the mid-twentieth century onwards, with particular attention to artistic experimentation with sound and the politics of intellectual production. His work explores the intersections of popular and experimental music, art practice, cinema, publishing, and political organization.
His areas of expertise include twentieth century black diasporic culture, race and popular music, race and popular culture, race and intellectual history, black studies, cultural studies, postcolonial studies, and sound studies.
Dr. Brar welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in Black diasporic culture, Black British Cultural Studies, Black diasporic intellectual history, and Black radical politics. He is involved in postgraduate research supervision within the School of History.
