Dhananjay Ravat is a Professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences and Physics & Astronomy at the University of Kentucky's College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a B.Sc. in Geology from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geophysics from Purdue University.
His research focuses on geophysics and planetary sciences, specializing in gravity and magnetic field analysis, solid-earth geophysics, tectonics, and environmental geophysics. Current investigations include advanced satellite-based magnetic anomaly mapping, lithospheric thermal structure, and planetary crustal dynamics.
As an associate editor for Frontiers in Earth Science and former editor for multiple geophysics journals, he actively shapes scholarly discourse. His work contributes to understanding Earth's deep structure and Martian lithospheric evolution.
Honors include fellowship in the Geological Society of India and memberships in the American Geophysical Union, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
He mentors graduate students and leads research on magnetic anomaly interpretation techniques applicable to terrestrial and planetary bodies.
