Dr. Dexter V.L. Hunt is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Birmingham, specializing in Sustainability and Underground Construction. He holds a MEng (2000) and PhD (2005) from the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on sustainable urban infrastructure, underground construction, and resilience assessment.
Education: MEng (Civil Engineering, 2000), PhD (Civil Engineering, 2005). Academic roles include Birmingham Fellowship (2012–2016) and full-time Lecturer since 2016.
Research Interests: Sustainability, Urban Futures, Underground Construction, Infrastructure Resilience, and Resource Management. Notable projects include the £6.3M Liveable Cities programme and the Sustainable Regeneration project.
Publications: Over 120 peer-reviewed articles, including high-impact journals like Global Environmental Change and Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology. Awards include the ICE Trevithick Prize (2012) and Outstanding Reviewer Status (2015).
Students: Supervised 18 doctoral students, with topics ranging from circular economy waste management to urban resilience. Examined 20 higher degrees. Teaching roles include modules on Underground Construction and Sustainable Construction.
