Devin Kennedy is Assistant Professor of History and Evelyn and Herbert Howe-Bascom Professor of Integrated Liberal Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His research centers on the history of computing within economic systems.
Kennedy examines how manufacturing and financial industries shaped computing technology, and how computing facilitated financialization. His current book project 'Coding Capital' traces this relationship from 1947 through the 1987 stock market crash.
His work bridges business history, technology studies, and economic history, with articles exploring computing in financial markets and utility infrastructure.
