Devan M. J. McNeill, CTRS, is an Assistant Professor in the Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation program at the University of Lethbridge, where he has taught since the program's inception in 2015. He is concurrently a Ph.D. candidate in Population Studies in Health at the same institution.
Education:
- Bachelor of Recreation and Leisure Studies (BRLS) in Inclusive and Therapeutic Recreation, Brock University.
- Master's in Recreation and Leisure Studies, University of Waterloo, specializing in community and identity dynamics in schizophrenia.
- Ongoing Ph.D. in Population Studies in Health, University of Lethbridge.
Research Focus:
Devan's work centers on Therapeutic Recreation interventions across mental health, addictions, stroke rehabilitation, and community care. His research explores identity formation in schizophrenia and evidence-based practices in recreational therapy for diverse conditions including dementia, physical disabilities, and traumatic brain injury.
Professional Expertise:
With 16 years of clinical practice, Devan has managed cases in forensic mental health, acute care, and community rehabilitation. He integrates this experience into teaching methodologies like disability lab simulations and community service-learning. He coordinates student internships across North America.
