Detlef Buschfeld is a Professor of Vocational Training and Human Resource Education at the University of Cologne’s Faculty of Management, Economics, and Social Sciences (WiSo). He has held this position since 2003 and currently directs the Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training in the Crafts Sector. His roles include membership in the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the German Institute for Research in the Craft Sector (DHI). Key responsibilities include academic leadership (e.g., Vice Dean for Studying and Teaching from 2012–2013) and policy engagement in vocational education.
Research interests focus on vocational training systems, crafts sector education, career development, and curriculum design. His work addresses challenges in aligning educational programs with labor market needs, particularly in micro-enterprises and craft industries. He has contributed to national and EU-funded studies on future skills requirements and published widely on curriculum frameworks and educational policy.
Publications highlight his expertise in vocational pedagogy, including analyses of bachelor’s program design, craft identity, and skill forecasting. His research bridges theory and practice, emphasizing practical applications in educational policy and enterprise training.
