معرفی
Dermot Green is a full Professor of Theoretical Physics and Quantum Chemistry at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), where he holds an ERC Consolidator Grant (€2M, 2025–2030). Previously, he secured an ERC Starting Grant (€1.3M, 2010–2024) and an EPSRC Fellowship in Theoretical Physics (2015–2019). He earned a 1st-class MPhys from the University of Oxford (2008) and a PhD in Theoretical Atomic Physics from QUB (2011), followed by postdoctoral roles at QUB, Durham University, and a visiting fellowship at Harvard University’s ITAMP.
- He leads research in antimatter interactions, many-body theory, and computational physics, with applications in materials science and medical imaging.
- Current roles include Chair of the International Scientific Committee for the International Workshop on Positron and Positronium Physics and Co-Chair of POSMOL.
Research Interests: His work focuses on quantum many-body systems involving antimatter (positrons and positronium), their interactions with atoms/molecules, and developing computational methods for these systems. Key projects include the ANTIMATTER grant exploring low-energy antimatter interactions and the Many-body Theory of Antimatter Interactions with Atoms, Molecules, and Condensed Matter.
Awards: Includes the 2019 Institute of Physics Sir David Bates Prize, ICPEAC Sheldon Datz Prize (atomic physics), and QUB Vice-Chancellor Research Prize (2018). He is a Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe and an inaugural member of the Royal Irish Academy’s Young Academy of Ireland.
Students & Grants: Supervised 4 PhD graduates and currently mentors Tiarnan Smyth and Taylor Scott. Directed research for over 10 Postdoctoral Fellows. Secured €3.3M in ERC grants and other funding.
Labs & Teams: Leads the Antimatter Research Group at QUB, part of the Centre for Light-Matter Interaction (CLMI). Collaborates internationally on projects like the International Workshop on Positron and Positronium Physics.
