معرفی
Derek Pratt is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Ottawa. His research focuses on radical chemistry, lipid autoxidation mechanisms, and ferroptosis. He directs an internationally recognized program studying free radical reactions, particularly the autoxidation of lipids and antioxidant inhibition. His work bridges synthetic organic chemistry, chemical biology, and biomedical applications, leading to significant advancements in both fundamental science and industrial partnerships.
Education & Career:
- PhD and postdoctoral studies in the United States
- Joined Queen's University (Canada) in 2005
- Recruited to University of Ottawa in 2010
Research Interests: Mechanisms of lipid autoxidation, radical-trapping antioxidants, ferroptosis regulation, and the design of novel inhibitors. His group explores how antioxidants suppress lipid peroxidation and how ferroptosis contributes to health and disease.
Awards & Recognition:
- Keith Fagnou Award in Organic Chemistry (Society of Canadian Chemists)
- Canada Research Chair in Radical Chemistry
- Polanyi Prize (Ontario Council for Graduate Studies)
- NSERC Discovery Acceleration Supplement
Grants & Collaborations: Funded by NSERC, NIH, and industry partners in Canada, the U.S., and Germany. His lab has trained over 60 students and researchers, advancing drug discovery and biomedical applications.
Labs/Teams: The Pratt Group at the University of Ottawa, specializing in radical chemistry and ferroptosis. Active in developing therapies targeting lipid oxidation and cell death pathways.
